"To Have And To Hold" "My mother's going to kill me..." Ginger Szabo Metcalf--former drugstore clerk, ex Lemo Tomato Juice Girl, and now Cleveland Indians wife--couldn't help but giggle as she said the words, though part of her knew all too well that it was probably closer to the truth than she'd like to admit. "That is, if your mother doesn't get to me first." She smiled as she looked at her new husband. My new husband... The words still sounded so new to her that she found herself still whispering it to herself over and over in the last few minutes--the first minutes of her married life. But as strange as the words sounded, nothing felt more natural, or more wonderful than the mere thought of them. "Hey," she said, reaching up to touch Jeff's forehead and brush aside a lock of his hair, "you're awfully quiet--you're starting to worry me..." Jeff laughed softly and pulled her close to him, his eyes tracing her face for a long time--as if trying to memorize every detail of her--before he finally spoke. "I'm sorry," he whispered, "it's just that this beautiful woman just took my breath away." "Mmm, well she told me that this handsome baseball player just swept her off her feet. Sounds like a match made in heaven, don't you think?" "Sure does..." He leaned in and kissed her--a sweet, long, lazy-summer kiss that made the whole world around them fade. For a short while, anyway. The sound of insistent throat-clearing startled them--it was the porter who had helped them earlier. He looked genuinely sorry for having interrupted, and once again cleared his throat awkwardly before he spoke. "I don't mean to intrude, sir, madame, but I thought you'd want to know that one of the passengers who had reserved a roomette had cancelled at the last minute and never boarded the train. Did you still want to take a roomette?" porter, Jeff said, "Absolutely," and then he kissed his new bride once more.
