Jeff convinces Ginger she's the only one for him (from "Obstinancy or Constancy?") (Jeff and Ginger have just come home from the Roadhouse, where Judy inadvertently revealed that Jeff had known she was in town and Jeff didn't tell Ginger) Ginger (knowing Jeff doesn't want to say it, but hoping he will): Did you know Judy was working for the Indians? Jeff (feeling incredibly guilty): Someone said something about it... Ginger: Is that why you didn't want me coming to any of your games? Jeff (sitting down beside her): Well, I... I thought you would be upset... (laughs sheepishly) You were so nice, I don't know why I stayed up nights worrying about it... You've been a peach about the whole thing... Ginger (laughing): What'd you think I'd do? Scratch her eyeballs out? (pauses and looks away from Jeff for a moment) I lost Charlie... I lost the screen test... I lost the white leather purse my aunt gave me for my First Communion, that had two dollars in it... (looks up at him, all of the sudden feeling very vulnerable) I don't want to lose you... And if it means being sweet to Judy Owen, well I can do that... Besides, I don't know how else to compete with a woman like that. She's so... smart and experienced, and (softly) pretty... and tall, and experienced... My only shot was trying to be nicer to her, and even that's hard... Jeff (leans in close and smiles): You're smarter and prettier than she is by far, and this isn't a contest... (strokes her cheek with his hand) Ginger (looking up at him, whispers): It isn't? Jeff (whispers): If it were, you'd win hands down... (kisses her) Anyways, you're a better kisser than she is... Ginger (realizing what he just said): What?! Jeff (knowing he just blew it again, trying desperately to cover up): That was a compliment- Ginger: Think about it! Jeff: Coach says I shouldn't think too much...
