I was calling about my test to see if- if um- we're having a baby. Jeff: What did she say? Ginger: she is looking for the results. (she talks into the reciever) I came in on Tuesday if that helps. Could you kind of hurry? I've only got three minutes. [she listens to the nurse] Could the test be wrong? Uh huh. Could it be anything else? uh huh. Ok, thanks. Bye. (Ginger hangs up the phone and leaves the booth) Ginger: (she walks up to Jeff) I-I'm not Jeff: what are you cryin for? Somethin' else wrong? Ginger: no, no, they said it was nerves. I probably missed my time of month because of nerves and if I just calm down, it will be ok. Jeff: ok Ginger: ok. [she paused] I liked Toledo. Jeff: I didn't even see it. (Ginger laughs) Jeff: I didn't. [he paused] You can make it to Hollywood now. Ginger: If I apply myself. (she pauses) Ginger: oh no! Jeff: what? Ginger: I told Charlie I was having a baby, and now I'm not and now everybody will know I'm a tramp. Jeff: You said you didn't care what people think. Ginger: Well-that's when I was being brave and I don't have to be brave anymore. Jeff: Well, at least you quit cryin' (they both laugh) Jeff: Ginger? Ginger: What? Jeff: I want you to know I meant what I said. Ginger: what? Jeff: in Toledo. Ginger: You're not obligated to stick by that. (she sits in the chair next to him) Jeff: I know it. Ginger: There's no reason to even talk about marriage now. Jeff: I stand by what I said. Ginger: well, I'm turnin' you down (they both laugh) Jeff: Ginger? Ginger: yes? Jeff: there's one thing I have to tell you so you know it didn't have anything to do whether there was a baby or not. Ginger: what? Jeff: I meant it when I said I love you. (Ginger starts to cry again) Jeff: well, don't cry Ginger: Jeff, I love you too. ( she puts her hand on his face and they kiss, then she pulls away) Ginger: but- we are never doing that again...never...never ever...No!
